Anybody using websitecarbon.com?

I am just curious if there are somebody that are using:

What do you think of marketing both as developer and customer having a green site? As there are also some end customers that cares about this…

Their metrics are…uhmmm…

  1. So…website size. Okie.
  2. An average figure that would be the same for everyone. Uh… okay, how are we using that as a metric if its all the same average?
  3. So… the same as #2, but they get a +1 if their datacenter, which we have no control over, reports green energy usage.
  4. The same as #3.
  5. Multiply by traffic. So a popular site gets a worse score.

…how is this a helpful system

Not to mention that I don’t think you can reliably measure any of that. Do realize that even for number one “Data transfer over the wire” is that your page goes through several servers to even get to a visitor and that those routes change all the time. You can’t accurately calculate the electricity of that entire route and even if you could, it would change for each person and for each route. Not to mention some people may have caching etc.

This whole metrics thing is garbage.
