Seeking Guidance and Opportunities: Navigating Challenges as a Young Tech Enthusiast from Pakistan

Hello everyone,

I’m new here and excited to join this platform. I’m turning 18 this October and have a strong passion for technology. Over the past few years, I’ve developed skills in various areas including WordPress development, ethical hacking, eCommerce, dropshipping, Facebook Ads Manager, ad development, copywriting, and full-stack web development. Currently, I’m on module 3 out of 7 in my full-stack web development course. I’ve also explored growth hacks for social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

Despite my efforts, I’ve been struggling to secure projects for the past month. My current situation is challenging as I can’t afford further education without financial support. I’m in an orphanage in Pakistan, and while I’ve been studying on a scholarship, it will soon end, leaving me responsible for all my expenses.

I’m feeling disheartened because, despite my hard work and diverse skill set, I haven’t seen the results I hoped for. Being from Pakistan, I understand there might be additional hurdles due to perceptions about the country. I’m reaching out here hoping for guidance from experienced individuals.

Any advice or support you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Hi @iamyou. Welcome to the SitePoint forums. A couple of suggestions:

  • Are there any local development companies in your area you could offer to do some work for?
  • It’s worth building a portfolio of work you can show off, like little web projects etc. Have you done anything like that? Do you have a personal website to advertise your skills?

Yes @ralphm I have recently made a website named as khareedarmandi.com and also I have built few ads for it that I can share with you if you want to see.
And the thing about local businesses is that there is no opportunity for a person who is skilled, the minimum requirement to apply in these businesses is 16 years education. I have only 11 years of education.

Id suggest this sentence is a red flag…

probably best not to make it sound like you’re violating terms of service when seeking opportunity?

@m_hutley I mean to say that I have learned these tricks to increase instagram followers etc and if possible I can share that here too without any cost because I have learnt it only for learning purpose. I have not posted it to provide any service because I know that it is of no use here or anywhere else.

Well my point is that how you say it, makes a strong impression on people. If you’re approaching opportunities with the “I explored hack on social media platforms” version of that sentence, in many places you wont get the chance to explain what you actually mean. Think carefully about how you’re presenting yourself to potential employers from the get-go.

Uhhh, I mean web-based businesses. In most places they will take on omeone who shows obvious talent. I would be surprised if they would be that picky anywhere in the world. There would be hardly any web developers anywhere with that many years of education.

Stop focus on technology. Focus on “How can I help you?”.

When you find somebody you can help, pick and learn the technology that needs for this task. No matter if it is a screwdriver or WordPress…

By helping people or companies (and solve their problems), you can start earning money.

oh thanks. I got it :slightly_smiling_face:

Which is not to say don’t do things you enjoy - if you like a technology, pick it up in your own time still by all means. Not everything needs to be about what will get you employed. Gotta keep the balance in mind.
